10 Winter Self Care Ideas For Mom
10 Winter Self Care Ideas For Mom
Every so often, I like to take this time to reevaluate my self-care practices. Not only for myself, but for everyone in the family. When the holidays come around, the hustle and bustle of the holiday season takes over and our self care takes the back burner. That's why I go over what I can do to ensure that we have some good practices in place before we get caught up in our busy lives. Here are 10 self care practices to carry you into winter:
1. Healthy Foods - We try to eat healthy as much as we can. but as the season is transitioning to winter there are an abundance of colorful foods that are harvested during this time of the year. We love eating sweet potatoes, gourds, squashes and beets this time of year. There are so many great comforting soup recipes like this squash soup or broccoli and cheddar soup. We try to set a good example for the kids and make sure we have a colorful plate for our meals.
2. Vitamins - In a perfect world, we would all get the good stuff our bodies needed from our daily diet. However, because the standard American diet falls short in many ways, taking a daily multivitamin is a great way to help fill in the gaps and make sure our bodies—including our immune system—gets the support it requires. I like to make sure everyone is getting their daily vitamins that help support our immune system. When I found Rainbow Light Counter Attack, I was thrilled to find that it contains Vitamin C and Zinc that helps support immune health. It’s easy to take and I feel so much better knowing my immune system has extra support. Rainbow Light Counter Attack has a high potency of vitamin C and is an excellent source of zinc. These combined with 3 targeted blends supports overall immune support I know with so many environmental stressors, an extra layer of immune support is sooo needed especially for busy moms! 3. Yoga and Meditation - This is a great way to help clear the mind and a fun way to get your kids involved. A kid-friendly yoga show that Kai loves to watch is Cosmic Yoga. It's fun to get the whole family doing it! Taking the time out of your day to meditate for a few minutes can have such a positive affect on you. You get to focus on your breathing and not on your long to-do list that gives you anxiety.
4. Aromatherapy - There is something about lighting a candle or diffusing your favorite oil that relaxes everyone in our house. Pumpkin spice candles anyone??
5. Grounding - I have always been taught that I needed to wear shoes once I go outside. Now that I have my own kids, I read up on the benefits of walking barefoot outside and connecting with the Earth. It is so nice to feel the grass and dirt between your toes. We try to get outside and do this for 20 minutes a day.
6. Exercising - Exercise is something I tell myself that I will be better at with each changing season. This doesn't mean that I need a gym membership or fancy gym equipment. Exercising can be as simple as going outside and playing soccer, chasing your kids, or riding bikes together. Being active makes me feel better and is a good way to destress for everyone.
7. New Seasonal Decor - With the changing of the season, also means to update our decor! Winter is one of my favorite times of the year to decorate and brings me so much joy!
8. Nature Walks - This is the best time to go outside and watch as nature is changing all around us! There's something about the smell of the season that I can't get over! With the cooler temperature, I want to spend as much time outside as I can soaking it all in. Going on family nature walks really lets me appreciate the beauty that is Mother Earth! It's also fun having Kai pick things around nature and making some pretty nature art! I want to make sure to instill the love for the outdoors in my kids at a young age so they can appreciate it when they are older.
9. Gratitude Journal - Sitting down and reflecting on what you are grateful for is not an easy task. This takes a lot of self reflecting and a wonderful way to get your kids involved in this practice. I love sitting down to hear what Kai has to say. I got her this journal which helps us discuss her emotions and the things she's grateful for.
10. Take a mini trip or a staycation - Sometimes getting out of our daily routine helps me get out of a rut. The new change of scenery helps me recharge and feel ready to tackle the challenges once I am back at home. I also like to take this time to unplug and just soak in every bit of family time during our trips.
Take the time to do something good for yourself and for your family this season! Make sure to add extra support to your immunity while doing so with Rainbow Light Counter Attack.
