Celebrating Beauty in Diversity

Celebrating Beauty in Diversity

The older I get, the more I reflect on my non-traditional upbringing and unique cultural experiences. As an immigrate from China, our family moved around a lot when I was young. We lived for many years in Europe before coming to America. I remember as a teenager, all I wanted was to fit in but everywhere I looked, I would be one of the only Asian children for miles. This all changed when we moved to Houston which truly is such a culturally diverse city! Now that I am older, I am really beginning to question the standards of the advertising, fashion and beauty industry and their inclusion of all cultural backgrounds. Raising a daughter with an interracial background makes me want to see cultural and racial diversity represented in the main stream even more. I want her to grow up in a world where she sees strong female role models with backgrounds similar to hers succeeding so she knows she can too! I know it may be silly but it starts with the small things. One of the trends that I applaud is the beauty industry really stepping up and recognizing the need to service women of every color and skin ancestry. Honestly, this is so refreshing because even 10 years ago, it was hard to find a shade of foundation that was olive based enough to accommodate my skin pigment!

That’s why I was so excited to discover AVYA. AVYA Skincare is the premier anti-aging skincare line designed to provide a luxury beauty experience for women around the world, regardless of skin tone or melanin level. Being a naturally darker shade means I have a whole new set of skin issues that many main stream skin care lines tend to overlook. As I turned 30 last month, I have started noticing the appearance of dark spots, skin discoloration and higher pigmentation around the mouth, chin and under eye area. AVYA was created to serve women who have more melanin in their skin than Caucasian women. Their formula of botanicals and compounds target multiple aspects of the melanin pathway, helping to reveal even, radiant skin!

I tried the SPF 20 Day Moisturizer and the Eye Bright Cream and here are my thoughts:

The Day Moisturizer contains Snow Mushroom Extract to hydrate and even skin tones while the Niacinamide provides anti-aging and anti-discoloration benefits. The cream is light and does not feel greasy on my combination skin. It goes on smooth and I feel an immediate deep hydrating effect.

Eye Bright Cream targets puffiness and dark circles with an exclusive formula of peony, turmeric, neem extracts plus topical caffeine and Cassava Matrix Technology

What it means for me: visible signs of mom-eye-reduction! All joking aside, this is my favorite product because I can feel and see the caffeine working to brighten the dark circles! I feel like it really helps even out the pigments in the thin skin area under my eyes. The scent is light yet refreshing too.

Overall, I am so glad women of every shade, color and pigment are being represented by AVYA skincare. It’s truly beautiful and I hope to see more brands take the lead!
