How to Get Better Sleep - 3 Quality Bedding Basics To Build your Sanctuary

Oh the ever elusive, restful sleep. Being a mom means wearing SO MANY different hats and taking care of ourselves can sometimes be the last on the list. I have spent too much time in my 20s not taking self care into consideration and I’m really starting to fill the aftermath in my 30s. One of the most important lesson I’ve learned is to value sleep like my life depends on it. (it really does ha!). Self care to me means investing in a peaceful sanctuary for restful sleep. We have spent far too long in our 20s piecemeal-ing our bedding, I honestly wish I knew the basic, quality bedding building blocks back then! Today I am sharing with you how to get better sleep by including 3 quality bedding basics!

#1 A Comforter Matched to your Sleeping Climate

Does temperature affect the way you sleep? I am such a hot sleeper. Temperature regulating bedding is a must, especially in Texas where the temperature in the summer can be well over 100 degrees for days on end! Did you know that the ideal sleep temperature is around 60 to 70 degrees according to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF)? Finding ways to stay cooler during sleep helps me sleep longer and wake up less frequently. Why not just sleep in a sheet? The flip side is, like most people, I love the weighted and cozy feel of a blanket. Imagine it like swaddling for adults. I have found the perfect solution in keeping cool but still have a fluffy down comforter blanket. The varying fill weight options The Company Store offers in their down and down alternative comforters is the best of both worlds. I loved being able to see what each weight means in their Comforter Guide.

I chose the Super Lightweight - Ideal for warmer climates, summer sleeping or for those who prefer the bare minimum. Ideal for room temperatures 74°F and up. The Legends® Geneva Down Comforter in Super Lightweight is a cornerstone in our summer bedding. It is crafted with premium Hungarian white goose down and Assembled in USA, in La Crosse, WI. My previous comforter would shift around but this Legends Geneva has 15” sewn-through box which keeps the down in place. I frankly wish I has this comforter while I was pregnant since I was so hot a night!

#2 Proper Support

Speaking of varying fill levels, do you and your significant other prefer different softness in pillows? I am firm all the way! I am a side sleeper and feel the firmer pillows properly align my head to spine. I also use a firm leg support pillow to reduce back pain. Hubby is the complete opposite. He prefers to sleep on his back and swears by a super soft down pillow. We could never agree but it’s so important to find the proper support that works for you. Don’t be afraid to customize those options and get one of each! It’s important to us to use organic materials as much as possible, especially for something that touches our face every night. We chose the Organic Down Pillows in soft for him and extra firm for me from the Bedding Basics collection at the Company Store. Our next investment will be Posture Pillows – Knee & Leg Support Pillow. I may ask for it for Mother’s Day! ha!

#3 Invest in Quality Sheets and Duvet Cover

This step is all about comfort. Just like Kai has a blankie and the sensory experience helps her feel safe and cozy, our bedding should do the same! I sleep better and longer when my body temperature is regulated by the sheets and duvet too. That’s why I chose the Comfort Wash Linen Collection by The Company Store. Pure linen is such a great material for summer and winter. Linen is an extremely breathable material make it warm for winter and cool for summer. Linen is also great at absorbing moisture before feeling wet. This awesome fabric will refreshed even if you have a sweaty husband (not naming any names here). I also love the textured and casual look of Comfort Wash Linen Sheets. When layered and mixed/matched, it’s creates a lived-in casual luxurious feel.
