3 Money Saving Tips for New Moms

This post is sponsored by Pampers at Sam’s Club. Opinions are my own.

You’ve always heard having babies can be expensive. It’s true - but this ain’t my first rodeo. Being a finance major, I remember rolling out the spreadsheet when we found out we were going to have a baby. Sure, a little budgeting goes a long way. Here are a few tips for all you new mamas out there:

1. RESALE - Old is New!

Did you know that there are local Facebook groups where you can buy new or gently used baby clothes/items?? It has been super popular, and this is a great way to find some amazing deals. Be mindful of your purchases since babies don’t need much to make them happy. They really do not need 20 pairs of shoes (even though they’re so stinking cute!). Look for bulk used toys for your child’s age on these trading groups too. Another idea is to buy gender neutral items. You can always save them for the next child if you plan to have more. It’s always sweet to see the younger one wear a hand-me-down from your older one! In the same thought, you could also resell your gently used items. Group things together in lots like 5 pairs of PJs or 4 pairs of leggings to make purchasing easier.

2. BUY IN BULK

The bulk of your spending during the first few years of your child’s life will be spent on diapers and wipes! Buying in bulk will save you so much money AND time! Who wants to run out to the stores in the middle of the night for diapers, right? Sam’s Club is my favorite place to stock up on the best diapers! Pampers Swaddlers gently wrap your baby in Pampers’ best blanket-like softness. Pampers Cruisers fit better around the baby's bottom and keep babies dry for up to 12 hours. Pampers Sensitive wipes are designed with baby’s delicate skin in mind and are 20% thicker versus regular Pampers wipes. Right now, save $8 instantly off any two boxes of Pampers Swaddlers or Cruisers diapers, and Pampers wipes through 3/22 at Sam’s Club and on samsclub.com with free shipping. Kai’s grandma has been teaching preschool for 27 years and asked the parents which diapers they preferred. Pampers was the most common!

3. RENT & UNDERSTANDING COST PER USE

Babies develop so fast and need new gear all the time. Why not rent instead of buy? There are some wonderful places that you can do just that! The Snoo Bassinet is a highly sought-after baby item. But have you seen the price tag? I know they say that there’s no price tag on a good night’s rest, but it made me do a double take! A baby doesn’t stay in a bassinet for too long so renting one for a few months is a good option. Also, when purchasing baby gear, it’s a good idea to think about how long it will last you. Sure, you can purchase a cute baby stroller, but will the baby outgrow it after a year? Can it convert to something a toddler may be able to use later? Maybe add on another seat if you plan on adding to the family? It really will pay to think about cost per use versus cost overall.

Being a mom is hard, and change is hard. But in the eyes of your kids, you’re perfect. You’re all the good things – beautiful, smart, strong, kind. So, when momming gets tough, just remember you can make it through by adjusting what you have to and sticking with the things that work for you. And don’t forget to pick up your Pampers diapers and wipes before 3/22 at Sam’s Club and save $8 on any two boxes! Your wallet (and sanity) will thank you! #PampersSamsSavings
