5 Things To Do With Your Kids Today To Take Care Of Our Planet

What hopes and dreams do you have for your kids? I used to think that being a parent, we get to shape our children into who they become but it’s truly the opposite. Kids are who they are the moment they are born. Every fiber of their personality, their being. As parents, we get to guide them and let them shine. I believe it’s also our responsibility as parents to foster future world changers. Our kids pick up our habits pretty quickly. They are watching, observing, and soaking it all in! It's never too early to show our kids eco-friendly habits that will continue to help their environment.  It's essential to have these discussions so that our kids can feel connected to nature and inspire them to have open conversations about helping the planet. Here are 5 things to do with your kids today to help take care of our planet.

Water Conservation - One of the first things I teach my kids is to turn off the water when we are not using it. When I am brushing their teeth, it's a great way to start pointing out how important it is to turn off the water while we're brushing. Another way to share about water conservation is collecting rainwater to use for indoor plants. Every drop counts, so make sure to close your tap!

Picking Up Litter - Kai and I were walking along the beach earlier this year when she made a comment on how come people were littering. Even a 4 year old knows that littering is harming the environment! Now when we make a trip to the beach, we pack some bags, gloves, and plenty of hand sanitizer to help pick up the trash we find at the beach. This can be done at parks or hiking trails or even around your neighborhood, not just the beach! It would be fun to even start a community clean up crew.

Reuse & Repurpose - I love using fresh plants and flowers and have tons of props that we use on projects we do. But once we're done with them, we reuse 100% of our props and compost all the flowers. Sometimes we even source prop items used in events that would be otherwise thrown away. Kai loves to donate her old books and toys so that others can find new life in them. Also, Kai loves saving water bottles, toilet paper rolls, and anything else she can get her hands on around the house. This is a great time for her to use her imagination and create something new from something old. We sure do have lots of cute crafts made from these household items!

Grow Our Own Garden - Growing a garden seems daunting but it does not have to be! It can be something simple like growing some herbs that you can use to cook with. We started a small garden in our backyard with Kai and it has been so rewarding and is teaching her responsibility too. It makes me so happy to see her reaction when she sees her plants sprouting.

Choosing Seventh Generation – This brand believes that children born today, tomorrow and seven generations from now deserve to live on a healthier, more equitable planet. The Sensitive Protection diapers are the first and only USDA Certified Biobased 30% diapers have an ultra-absorbent core made with FSC® Certified sustainably sourced fluff and 0% chlorine bleaching. This is such a huge game changer! I love how Seventh Generation’s Sensitive Protection Diapers provide the 12 hour leakage protection we need, and absorbs liquid within seconds. Even for overnights when Bo is sleeping 7pm - 7am, he wakes up with no blow outs!

Our children have the potential to do so much. We can help guide them to become future world changers by setting great examples on how to take care of our planet.
