New Baby New Routine - Sleep Schedule at 10 Weeks & Ways to Wind Down
Thank you OXO Tot for partnering with me on this post. As always, all opinions are my own
Time is flying with Baby Number 2! One of the things I wished we did with Kai was to write down all the little schedule changes that really made a difference. With a second baby, getting on a schedule is even more important so the whole family can get some much needed rest. I have been looking at newborn sleep/ wake schedules all over the internet and they were really infusing/not flexible. We have been following the Eat - Play - Sleep sequence for the last 2 weeks and it’s been a game changer! Today I am sharing with you how it works and our favorite wind down activities.
Eat - Play - Sleep
I love this schedule because it can be adjusted based on how long the naps are. Ideally, Bodhi eats when he first wakes up for 15 minutes, plays for 45-min to an hour and then back down for bed (anywhere between 30 minutes to 2 hours). I try to stretch the feeding out to one time every 3 hours. Just be mindful of sleepy cues. I have noticed it’s harder to get him to sleep longer if he is overtired. If the baby has long stares, little movements or yawning, it’s probably time to put him/her down.
Witching Hour Wind Down
Right around 5 o’clock Bodhi typically starts acting really fussy. His favorite way to unwind is with a warm bath. Not only does this help him settle into a bedtime routine, the warm water always calms his bubbly tummy. Since he is already 14 lb, our tiny sink baths won’t do! We have really enjoyed the Splash & Store Bathtub from OXO Tot. It’s the only tub he will need from birth to 18 months. It has a slanted support that gentle cradles him comfortably. There is also a stopper to prevent him from sliding down. There is a wider end too that has more room for older babies that can sit on their own. It’s sooo easy to fill without using water for the whole big tub and so easy to store too. Simply pop it flat and use the swivel hook to hang! To shop for the best bath and organization tools, head to OXO’s website. We love bathing Bodhi together as a family and putting him down for bed. Big sister then reads him a book and we all sing “you are my sunshine” at a goodnight song. I love seeing them connecting together this way!
Hope these simple tips will help your new baby get into a restful routine!
