Tried and True Holiday Gift for Toddlers Plus Christmas Playroom Makeover
Having a playroom is one of those things I loved and dreaded as a new parent. I loved the idea of having a space for Kai to get creative and let her imagination run wild but I wasn’t sure how it was going to fit with the style of the rest of the house. Fast forward a year, it’s now my favorite area in the house to decorate. If you are in the market to make a few updates to the playroom this holiday season and aren’t sure how it’s all going to look together with your décor, let me ease your mind and search today! I’m also sharing a special 20% off coupon code to Teamson.com - TeamsonJG20, valid even on sale items, making some of their kitchens $115 and $65 for rocker toys. Teamson Kids simply make the best play kitchen and decor for kids.
I am sharing my 2 tried and true playroom additions from last Christmas today with ideas on how to decorate the playroom for the holidays! Both items are from Teamson Kids. I’ve had the kitchen since Kai was about 18 months old. I was totally on the fence about adding a play kitchen because I wasn’t sure if she was going to play with it year after year. I am happy to report the Teamson play kitchen is one of the only larger additions to her playroom that she consistently engages with. She has evolved into complex pretend play and makes us lunch and dinner and even bakes cookies. It teaches her the concept of process and sharing. When her friends come over for a playdate, the Teamson play kitchen is the first thing everyone gravitates towards. After over a year of banging, slamming, scratching, licking- basically any abuse under the sun, the Teamson play kitchen stood the test of a toddler! And there are so many to choose from!
The Merry Go Around rocking horse we added last Christmas and it’s been a beautiful décor and play piece. Kai is obsessed over carousels and the Merry Go Around rocking horse makes her feel like she’s got her own private carousel right in her playroom! She is a little reserved and cautious by nature. I am so glad it comes with a handle for her to hold on to. When she’s not pretending to be a cowgirl, we use it as decoration in her playroom and it’s just too precious.
From now through December 14th, Teamson Kids is offering a 20% off discount to my readers with code TeamsonJG20. It’s valid even on sale items. If you want to try your luck, Teamson has a "Win the Workshop" Sweepstakes for a chance win $3,000 in cash and Teamson toys! Can you imagine the look on your kiddo’s face if you won! I know Kai would flip!
Now on to Holiday décor tips for the playroom. Here are my 3 biggest hacks:
1. Choose a theme and stick with it!
Whether it’s flocked, snowy wonderland, plaid cabin or glitter and gold, maximize impact by carrying the same theme throughout the space. Since I already had a pink balloon garland in the room, we opted for a pink Christmas this year with pink ornaments, tassels and furry rugs.
2. Fairy lights is your best friend!
Lighting adds so much to the room! I love lining the back of her kitchen with strands of battery operated LED fairy lights. It sets a magical mood without breaking the bank
3. Don’t forget the costumes.
Take pretend play up a notch with holiday themed outfits. Kai insists on Olie wearing his Santa outfit while she makes cookies for both of them. A little $3 headband has become her most prized possession.
Whether you are revamping your whole playroom this holiday or just hoping to bring a smile to your child’s face, I hope your season is filled with magic and imagination. Happy decorating!
