Art Buying Tips for the Indecisive Plus Dining Room Before and After
This post is sponsored by Minted. We have been happy customers for over 6 years and all the opinions are of course my own.
We have finally taken the plunge! Yes! It happened 5 years after buying this house! I cannot even begin to tell you the excitement and rush I feel every time I see the first piece of art we put on our walls. For anyone who knows me, my biggest fault is being indecisive. Partly because I feel like I can see soooo many possibilities for décor, it just feels daunting to decide on an art piece or wall décor piece. Something about it feels final, like putting on jewelry after finishing an amazing outfit. I have always felt that art and make or break the atmosphere in a space. To share show you the whole story, I have to tell you how far we have come!
When we bought this house for sale by owner 5 years ago, I fell I love with the potential of the dining space. The walls were covered in wallpaper from the 80s. Everything was dark and maroon. Over the years, as I have gotten more into home décor and interior design blogging, I am more drawn to light, airy, neutral spaces. So away went the maroon wall color, the old chandelier and the ancient rug. In came white tables, gold velvet chairs and lots of plants. The last thing that was missing was a focal point. Here is where my newest obsession from Minted comes in. We have been long time customers of Minted on their card services side. I can still remember creating our engagement party invitations together with Kevin years ago! I knew their service and print quality are incredible. We also love Minted’s commitment to the global art community. I love that they source their designs from independent artists each with a unique story about the piece. We have even voted on our favorite designs for artist friends before on the Minted Art Challenge. With an incredible art selection, we knew we would end up with an art piece that truly spoke to our family’s spirit. Today, I am sharing with you our selection process to help you get give those bare walls some love!
Art Buying Tips for the Indecisive
1. It’s A Team Effort
What makes a house feels like a home is the journey you and your loved ones take to get it there. Every décor piece or furniture should have feeling or a story, not just for you but for the whole family. I know when it comes to choosing home décor, Kevin usually is just as indecisive but make a point to start a conversation. The art buying process can be a date night in itself. Pour a glass of wine and flip through the Minted online catalogue together! You’ll be surprised what your spouse is into! Kevin fell in love with the Ocotillo II limited edition print by Kamala Nahas. I was so refreshed by the way he described his feelings towards this Minted print, it made the piece that much more special to me
2. Think Beyond Color
This décor rule is something I personally abide by. When choosing art pieces, we tend to care more about if it matches the room instead of how it makes us feel. I ended up selecting the most matchy matchy option for our dining room area, not following my own advice. I was blinded by the pinks and grays but felt not emotional connection to the piece. When you get to look at an art piece every day, it should make you feel SOMETHING. The Ocotillo II limited edition print by Kamala Nahas made me feel calm, hopeful and intentional. The golden and blush glow made Kevin and I both so happy to see it, like we cannot take our eyes off it.
3. Use Technology to See It in Your Space
Oh how far our technology has come! When we narrowed down to 2 paintings, I used a iphone app to place it inside our living room. You can also paste an image of the art into your room using PowerPoint. Another helpful tip was to measure out the sizing before and using painters tape to position it where you would hang it in your space. This method helped me visualize the Minted Art in my space.
We could not be more happy with the Minted art piece we selected. It was delivered super fast and they also had an offer for free shipping at the time I ordered! I shared an unboxing on my Instagram stories and you guys just loved it! Thank you so much for the feedback and I cannot wait to hear what room you will transform next!
