10 At-Home Easter DIY Activities For Families and Kids

Each holiday brings on a new excitement. Easter is no exception! This year, instead of the hustle and bustle of getting ready for Easter Sunday mass and going out to lunch, we get a chance to celebrate quietly at home and reflect on the new season that is upon us. Just because we can’t be with friends and family in a big gathering, does not mean we can’t still make memories! My mother-in-law has always inspired me by making a big deal about holidays, and I’m hoping one day, Kai and Bodhi will pass along their enthusiasm for the holidays to their own children. Here are a few activities to make Easter a bit more special at home!
1. Dress up
For us, we love to dress up for any occasion. I’m so excited to find cute matching family outfits at Old Navy! We’re getting all dolled up at home and having fun with it!

2. Set the Table in Style
Break out the fancy tablecloth and fine china! This is a great time to use them! You can even have the kids choose a ‘restaurant’ name and make a sign to hang up at the table. The kids can help set the table and write out the menu for the day. If you’re feeling adventurous, let them create the menu themselves! I love using cute themed Ellie and Piper paper goods to make it more festive! You’re already dressed in your Sunday best, so why not enjoy a fancy meal while you’re at it!
3. Easter Egg Hunt
Participating in an Easter egg hunt will never get old! Go hide those eggs outside in the backyard or the front yard. Try filling the eggs with puzzle pieces that spell out where they can find their Easter basket. Or have one golden egg with some money hidden inside or a note that says that they can pick the family movie for the night! Get creative with it! Our neighborhood has been doing a teddy bear hunt. This can be adapted to Easter! Each family places an egg in a window and people can drive by and go egg hunting!
4. Make an Egg Garland
I’m sure we all have a bunch of leftover plastic eggs. You can turn them into cute garland! This site shows you how easy it is with just some string to have an adorable DIY garland!
5. Dye/Painting Eggs
There are so many ways to dye an egg nowadays! There are marbled eggs, tie dye eggs, or chalk eggs. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to get messy! Glamfetti Co also makes a fun balloon activity kit for kids and families. We used the balloons provided and attached a skewer to the end of it and stuck the balloon in styrofoam. This created “balloon eggs” for the kids to print. After the paint has tried, the kids can use a funnel to catch the balloon eggs or have a balloon egg race!
6. Easter Pancakes
Why not turn breakfast into something fun! All you need to create a cute bunny pancake is whipped cream, banana, and chocolate chips! You can find recipes here and here!
7. Flower Crafting Station
Spring is here, and the flowers are blooming! Why not have the kids create some paper flowers to help decorate the house. This page is full of ideas for flowers to make and are easy to create. Another bonus is that making the flowers will help with fine motor skills! The good thing about these flowers is that you won’t have to water them and they last forever!
8. Host a Bunny Olympics
We put together a ‘Backyard Olympics’ for Kai the other week and it was a huge hit! Come up with some cute bunny games and have the kids create signs and gather the materials. Games can include bunny sack race, egg spoon race, and egg drop (where you put a plastic egg between your legs and waddle with it and drop it in a basket). We even had an awards ceremony at the end of it all! The possibilities are endless!
9. Plant Jellybeans
I heard this tradition from a friend. When she was little, her and her siblings would plant ‘magical’ jellybeans with her parents the night before Easter. When they woke up, they will go and check on their jellybeans and notice that lollipops have sprouted! I feel like this may be a new tradition we will add to our family.
10 Send Easter Cards
Greeting cards are not reserved just for holidays such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day! Have the kids write some family and friends a note to wish them a Happy Easter. I’m sure it will brighten their day!
